Founded in 1972, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) protects consumers from risks inflicted by many types of products. The CPSC exists independently from the U.S. government and operates out of Maryland. Wielding the authority to inspect and control the quality of more than 15,000 products such as certain vehicles, swimming pools, and barbecue equipment, the CPSC acts as a regulator, making sure each product adheres to rigorous safety standards before appearing in stores.
